18:24 hours on 1.8.24 was a special moment for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as lifeboat crews and fund raisers around the country were photographed to mark the 200th anniversary of the creation of the lifesaving charity in 1824.
Members of the St Albans branch joined in the “One Moment One Crew” celebration, hosted by The Six Bells pub in St Michael’s village.
The honorary secretary of the branch, Kate Carroll, said: “St Albans may be some distance from the sea but the busiest lifeboat station in the country is on our doorstep: Tower Lifeboat on the Thames. The St Albans branch has been supporting the RNLI since 1920. Unfortunately our centenary celebrations had to be cancelled due to Covid, so we were delighted to be able to join together last Thursday to mark the RNLI’s 200th anniversary.”
