Men of Fields – a St Albans-based cricket club of dads with children at Garden Fields JMI School – have completed their fifth charity walk of over 100km.

After setting themselves an initial target of £20,000 for St Albans charity Youth Talk, they have more than doubled their fundraising to over £40,000 in total – to date.

Garden Fields Cricket Club run many events, the biggest of which is their bi-annual charity walk which has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years. Their latest marathon endeavour took them over 100km of Norfolk coastline, which proved a major challenge in increasingly appalling weather conditions.

The £40,000 raised will help Youth Talk provide over 800 mental health counselling sessions for young people.

Jim Lewis from the charity said: “The Men of Fields, are no ordinary community group. It has developed into a club of all ages and all walks of life, dedicated to making a difference to other people’s lives, raising huge sums of money for good causes. In their latest challenge, they have raised a staggering amount for us to date and we are in complete awe of their passion and dedication to the cause.”

For the MoFs, Ben Walker said: “We met Youth Talk through our local community network. From the off it was a charity we wanted to support – some of us have children who have suffered some sort of mental health issue and have used Youth Talk’s services. It is humbling to see the work that they do, and it means a huge amount to see the direct impact we can have in supporting them to help young people in the area.”
