In pictures: 30th Classics on the Common is motoring marvel

More than 10,000 people flocked to Harpenden to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Classics on the Common and enjoy almost 900 classic cars, motorcycles and scooters.

Wednesday’s event, which is organised by Rotary in Harpenden, included a 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, a 1916 Harley Davidson F, a 1927 Talbot, a 1949 Guy Wolf Coach and a 1983 MCW Metrobus, plus a 40ft TT motorcycle simulator, autojumble stalls and plenty of refreshments.

Last year’s show raised £34k for charity, and this year’s beneficiaries – in addition to Rotary in Harpenden – are Youth Talk, Hope and Homes for Children and the Hertfordshire branch of the Motor Neurone Diseases Association.

Youth Talk provide free, confidential counselling to 13-25 year olds in St Albans, Harpenden and surrounding villages. MNDA aims to make a positive difference by supporting people affected by MND by providing support and information. Hope and Homes for Children carries out preventative work in nine countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia, building community networks and the infrastructure to enable families to thrive.
