St Albans business coach Paul Carolan has been braving dark mornings and freezing temperatures to train for this year’s Paris Marathon.

Paul, 52, only started running during lockdown, but soon caught the bug and ended up enlisting for the London Marathon in 2021.

He said: “I’m a late aged runner so believe me when I say it’s going to be very tough getting round 26.2 miles!

“Last time I was training in the summer, and it’s definitely harder now but I’m loving it and it gets me up in the morning.

“I’m also better prepared this time round and am having regular physio for general maintenance!

“London was such an incredible feeling, I felt like a superstar, and I’m really looking forward to Paris as I think I’ll run past things in the city which I’ve never seen before.”

Paul is a trustee for charity St Albans Action for Homeless, which aims to provide vital support for those people who don’t have anywhere to live, including feeding and clothing street sleepers, and running a supported living house to get young people back on their feet.

After winning his place in the Paris Marathon he said he could think of no better charity to support.

“I’m running for a very important cause and every pound raised from this fundraising will go to helping people in desperate need, so please, please give what you can.”
