Could the flood waters finally recede for long-suffering residents of Drakes Drive?
Home-owners living near the junction with Richard Stagg Close have resorted to building their own makeshift barriers to protect their properties every time it rains.
Heavy downpours result in knee-deep flooding for a sizeable stretch of the road, which also poses a danger to pedestrians as cars mount the footpath to avoid the water.
County councillor Anthony Rowlands has been pushing for Herts County Council to take effective action for years, and now it appears his efforts have finally paid off.
HCC is currently carrying out major drainage works on Drakes Drive, between Thirlmere Drive and Camp Road, in a bid to to improve the old drainage system and alleviate surface water flooding at this location.
The works, which are expected to finish at the end of March, involve replacing the old drains to capture surface water more efficiently along Drakes Drive, between the Camp Road and Frobisher Road.
PLUS: Installing new chambers into the underground drainage system to catch debris from building up and provide additional storage of surface water at the low spot near Richard Stagg Close.
Installing new attenuation storage points on either side of Richard Stagg Close to store excess rainwater and remove the risk of flooding.
Remediation works to the existing system and further improvements of the drainage system.
