At their all-Mozart concert this coming Saturday, St Albans Bach Choir will bid farewell to their music director Andrew Lucas, who has held the post since 1998, the longest tenure of any conductor in the choir’s 100 year history.
Andrew is also leaving his job as the Cathedral’s Master of the Music to take up the post of Interim Director of Music at Winchester Cathedral, prior to retirement.
The two works to be performed are the exuberant Coronation Mass and the much-loved Requiem. Choristers from the Cathedral are taking part, along with orchestra Sinfonia Verdi and soloists Rowan Pierce (soprano), Helen Charleston (alto), Caspar Singh (tenor) and Marcus Farnsworth (bass). The alto and tenor soloists are former Cathedral choristers who have gone on to make international singing careers.
Andrew said: “These are two of my favourite choral works -Mozart’s choral music at his finest – and it will be the greatest pleasure to be able to perform them in my last concert in St Albans.”
