It was the culmination of two years’ hard work, a fashion show “full of confidence, sass and style” which saw Oaklands College highlight the talents of its fashion, art and design students to an audience of more than 300 people.
Students had produced collections inspired by sustainability and ethical and social impact, based on the theme of “zeitgeist”, each showcasing three outfits on the catwalk at the St Albans campus.
Natalie Sturman, lecturer in art and design at the college said: “From creative director to models, the fashion students put on a professional show, and I can see them making a success in their future careers.”
The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster, said: “I am blown away at what the students have done, a lot of us here in attendance want to order clothes from the students already!”
Local businesses had supported the show, with Amy Lisney-Smith and Natalie Herd from I’m Fine Wellbeing on Hatfield Road displaying some of the student designs in their shop window. Economy fashion company Tommy and Lottie, who are collaborating with the college next year, were also in attendance.
Local fashion stylists and influencers were in the front row at the show, with Shameem Hodgkiss (@stariduststyles) paying tribute: “What a fabulous evening! Such talented young creatives bringing so much joy to the catwalk. Loved every category especially the tailoring section! The show was full of confidence, sass and style – loved it.”
