The issue of on-street parking around the city centre continues to fuel controversy as a public consultation exercise enters its last week.
As previously reported in the St Albans Times, residents living in Victoria Street (pictured) and Lattimore Road fear the replacement of single yellow lines with doubles will prevent them from having visitors – be that family, friends or tradespeople – at any time of the day or week. SADC’s parking enforcement team claim the proposal to change both sides of the road from single yellow to double is a safety measure, but they have completely disregarded the issue of visitor parking,
St Peter’s ward Green councillor Juliet Voisey has been trying to raise awareness of the issue: “I’m trying to point out that this is still a large residential area and residents are being overlooked. I said people won’t be able to park outside their home to load/unload and what about visitors and I feel that this point is being disregarded, and they did say that they will be taking residents’ comments into consideration and if there is a huge swell of issues surrounding it they will rethink. I wonder if they need to do double yellow lines on both sides of the road?”
