Church event looks at fake news in today’s society

St Albans Times editor Matt Adams

St Albans Times editor Matt Adams will be joining Rev Peter Crumpler, associate minister of St Paul’s Church, St Albans, on Sunday evening, to discuss how to counter fake news and disinformation.

The event, ‘Standing for Truth in an Age of Disinformation,’ will be held at the Blandford Road, Fleetville, church from 7pm.

Peter Crumpler explained: “These days it’s hard to know where to turn for reliable, trusted information. Many people have turned off from following the news, because they aren’t sure what to believe and feel powerless.

“We want to look at how to fight back against fake news and disinformation – maybe in small, personal ways, but ways that can make a real difference.”

The evening is one of a series of events held at St Paul’s, looking at issues including artificial intelligence, stress and health.

Peter added: “It’s good that Matt can take part in the evening, as he has pioneered a valuable community initiative to provide trusted local news and information. Although the event was planned long before the election was called, it’s come at a very useful time.”
