A St Albans junior school has pledged improvements to pupils’ toilets following complaints from parents.
The Year 3 facilities at Fleetville Junior School in Hatfield Road are said to be in a state of disrepair, with 90 pupils having to share just two cubicles.
Parents say they are generally in an appalling state and very unhygienic, and the situation has been going on for the best part of a year, with children often refusing to use them during the day or queuing throughout break times in vain.
But after being contacted by the St Albans Times, the school has promised something will finally be done to remedy the situation.
Headteacher Clare Whitehouse said: “We acknowledge the concerns raised regarding the toilet facilities for Year 3 children and would like to reassure parents that work has already begun on improving the current facilities, and we are also assessing long-term options for refurbishing and expanding them.
“We are actively collaborating with the school trust to expedite these measures and thank parents for their patience and understanding as we address this issue.
“The well-being and safety of our children is our top priority, and we are committed to providing a clean and hygienic environment for all. We appreciate the feedback and support from our school community as we work towards improving the Year Three facilities for everyone’s benefit.”
