Free festival packs in the crowds at Woodland

The parish of Sandridge came together despite the weather for a spectacular free summer festival in Woodland Park on Saturday, supporting local bands, charities, businesses and organisations.

The event, which is organised by Sandridge Parish Council, followed a previous festival to mark the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Cllr Jenny Roberts, vice chair of the parish council, said: “This year we had an amazing programme of music starting at 1pm with The Sopwell Singer and finishing with at 10pm with Uptown Funk. In between we were delighted to have music by The Splinters – made up of friends from Year 6 Wheatfield Junior School on their first major gig.

“In the arena we had a delightful dancing display from All About Ballroom ranging from under 5s to adults, followed by the hugely popular dog show, with categories such as the waggest tail, child’s best friend and golden oldies.

“Our compère for the day Stuart Nurse did an amazing job keeping the busy schedule of the whole day going. “

Children were able to enjoy free face painting, trampolines and a climbing wall, Sandridge Scouts cooked sausages and burgers from 1pm till 7pm, and liquid refreshment was provided by the Green Man pub.

Cllr Roberts added: “Despite the cloudy skies the rain stayed awa , literally thousands of residents came along allowing children to play impromptu football games whilst families chatted to neighbours and friends enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of Sandridge Parish Council’s summer festival.”
