Men of Fields embark on fifth massive charity walk

Men of Fields – a St Albans based cricket club of dads with children at Garden Fields JMI School – have another massive charity walk coming up in early July.

Their fifth marathon walk aims to raise more than £20,000 in aid of St Albans charity Youth Talk.

Garden Fields Cricket Club is a collection of local dads obsessed with charity fundraising. They run many such events, the biggest of which is their bi-annual charity walk and have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years.

In 2022 they won the St Albans District Chamber of Commerce’s Michael Weaver Award for Community Impact for their efforts.

For their next walk, 24 Men of Fields will be undertaking a rigorous 100k walk around the Norfolk Fens and Coastline between July 4-7.

Youth Talk’s mission is to provide the best possible mental health support to young people in St Albans and the surrounding areas. It’s important for there to be a safe, trustworthy, calm and professional environment for young people to feel comfortable in and share whatever is on their mind and, with the support of charitable donations from the public, it can deliver at a time when mental health support is in critically short supply.

For the MoFs, Trevor Merriden, one of the team of fundraisers said: “It is a delight to be fundraising for Youth Talk this year. They do an incredible job providing free, independent counselling to young people. We’re delighted to be involved!”

Rachel Simkin, fundraising manager at Youth Talk added: “Youth Talk are absolutely thrilled to be the chosen charity of the Men of Fields walking challenge this July. On first meeting them, I was blown away by the incredible amount they’ve raised for good causes over the years. Every step they take will help us provide free counselling support to young people in St Albans, Harpenden and the surrounding areas. In setting their target high, MoF have an ambition to raise enough sponsorship to provide 400 one-to-one counselling sessions.”

If you want to support the MoFs and Youth Talk you can help them to provide local young people with the one-to-one counselling support they really need. To donate to Men of Field’s charity walk please click here or use the QR code below.
