Special visitors to Samuel Ryder Academy were treated to a display of creativity as part of the Community Art Project ‘Artists & Residents’.
Organised by the St Albans Anna Chaplaincy, it saw three members of the long-running Hatfield Road Daycare group come to see the school art studios and meet with students who were producing artworks for the project.
The guests included Sue Davey, coordinator of Daycare since its start in 1988, Brenda Quick who lives locally to the school, and Peggy Liffen, pictured with an artwork in progress by student Bethany. 97 year-old Peggy spoke to the assembled group about her life, and the time she spent in her youth supporting work at Bletchley Park.
The Community Art Project visit falls within Global Intergenerational Week, a celebration of the power of intergenerational relationships which seeks to highlight the amazing outcomes achieved when people of all ages come together.
The Mayor, Cllr Anthony Rowlands said: ‘We were thrilled to visit Samuel Ryder’s art department, to meet the visitors from Hatfield Road Daycare group and to see the students’ work. The evident engagement between those present for this special occasion exemplifies what can be achieved by bringing together the generations. Congratulations to the students and teachers, to the Daycare group, to the district council officers and to the Anna Chaplaincy for making this happen.”
