Shoppers visiting the Sainsbury’s store at Colney Fields helped raise more than £3,000 for Parkinson’s UK.
Staff member Tarina Cooper was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 40 four years ago, and wanted to give something back in thanks for the huge amount of support she has received from the charity.
She explained: “I had been struggling with work and life in general, feelings of anxiety and not understanding what was wrong. Four years on, I am on medication and have received lots of support from my doctor, Parkinson’s specialist and nurse.
“I have also received lots of support from Parkinson’s UK, which is why I was keen to do the fundraiser on their behalf.
“I have been amazed with the generosity of the public. I never believe I would raise so much.
“I have worked at Sainsbury’s for nearly 29 years and they have been very supportive, My store manager, Ujjwal Kaushal, was fully behind me with the fundraiser.
“I was also very pleased with the support my colleagues have given me. I could never have raised so much without their help organising and running the event. I hope to repeat my efforts again next year.”
A total £3,348.54 was raised on the day, plus Just Giving donations of £2,363, making a grand total of £5,710.54.
