Acting graduate Bethan Craig-Hughes has returned home to debut her first play – Your Biggest Fan.
This is a new one-woman comedy-drama exploring internet fan culture and parasocial relationships.
The production, which is coming to Trestle Arts Base on May 11 for one night only, asks the question: how far would you go for someone you love – even if you don’t really know them?
Bethan said: “I wrote the play whilst studying at Guildford School of Acting and I am delighted to be bringing it to my home town of St Albans for its debut performance!”
Your Biggest Fan follows one wild week in the life of Jessie; superfan of global pop icon, Summer Cooper. A twist of fate brings the singer to Jessie’s village and it seems her dream of connecting with Summer has finally come true.
But when Jessie shares a photo of the meeting online, she does not expect it to be later used as evidence when Summer is drawn into a criminal investigation.
With angry fans and the police on her case, can Jessie save Summer and herself before it’s too late?
Bethan graduated from the University of Warwick in 2021 with a First in Theatre and Performance
Studies, and went on to complete an MA at Guildford School of Acting. She graduated in 2023 and received the MA Acting award for the highest overall mark in her year.
Your Biggest Fan was developed as part of Bethan’s course at GSA, with staff critiquing: “The concept is strong, the character is consistent, amusing and poignant, and the execution is done with panache and energy.”
After receiving such an overwhelmingly positive response, she is over the moon to be bringing the play to Trestle Arts Base.
Bethan refuses to be drawn on who she based Summer on: “I could tell you my inspiration – but she has a history of suing!”
